When God Asks You to Let Go: Abraham, Obedience, and the Provision Already Waiting

Published on 2 April 2026 at 15:05

Introduction

There are moments in your life when God may ask you to trust Him in ways that feel uncomfortable.

Not because He wants to take from you,
but because He is inviting you into a deeper level of faith.

If you’ve been feeling stretched, unsure, or even a little afraid of what God is asking of you, I want you to know this gently

You are not alone in this.

When Obedience Doesn’t Make Sense

In Genesis 22, God asked Abraham to offer his son Isaac.

This was the very promise God had given him.

It didn’t make sense.
It didn’t feel easy.
It required complete trust.

“Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love… and offer him there as a burnt offering.” Genesis 22:2

And yet, Abraham chose to obey.

“So Abraham rose early in the morning…” Genesis 22:3

He didn’t delay.
He didn’t argue.
He moved in obedience, even while carrying the weight of not understanding.

Faith That Walks Without Seeing

As Abraham and Isaac walked together, Isaac asked a question that could have shaken everything.

“Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Genesis 22:7

Abraham responded with quiet faith

“God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” Genesis 22:8

He didn’t have the full picture, but he trusted the heart of God.

This is what faith looks like sometimes

Not having all the answers, but still choosing to walk forward with God.

The Provision Was Already There

At the very moment Abraham was about to act in obedience, God stopped him.

“Do not lay your hand on the boy… for now I know that you fear God.” Genesis 22:12

And then

“And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns.” Genesis 22:13

The provision was already there.

God had not abandoned Abraham.
He had already prepared what was needed.

Abraham just had to trust long enough to see it.

God Was Testing His Heart, Not Taking His Promise

This moment was never about loss.

It was about trust.

God wanted Abraham’s heart to remain anchored in Him, not even in the promise itself.

Sometimes, God will ask you to loosen your grip on something

Not to remove it,
but to remind you that He is the source of everything in your life.

Your Obedience Leads You Into God’s Provision

After this moment, Abraham named the place

“The Lord will provide.” Genesis 22:14

This wasn’t just a statement
it was a revelation

God provides

Not always how you expect
Not always when you expect
But always in the way you truly need

A Gentle Reminder for You

If God is asking you to trust Him right now, even in a way that feels difficult

He sees you
He understands the weight of it
And He is not asking you to walk into emptiness

There is provision in your obedience
There is grace in your surrender
There is peace waiting on the other side of your trust

You may not see it yet

But that doesn’t mean God hasn’t already prepared it

Closing Prayer

God, help me to trust You even when I don’t understand.
Give me the courage to obey You with a willing heart.
Remind me that You are my provider and that You are already making a way for me.
Teach me to rest in Your love and not in my own understanding.
Amen.
